About AIFI
The Association of Indian Forging Industry was incorporated as The Association of Indian Drop Forging & Stamping Industries (AIDFSI) on 1 October 1965 at Mumbai (then Bombay). The name was later changed to its present name, that is, Association of Indian Forging Industry on 29 December 1995. In December 2002, its registered office was shifted from Mumbai to Pune. The executive power of the Association is vested with its Board of Directors, consisting of directors, regional chairmen, sub-committee chairmen and is headed by its President and Vice-President.
The Association operates from its Secretariat in Viman Nagar, Pune. The AIFI family comprises 238 member companies across India, including 184 forging units and 54 associate companies. The major activities of the Association include holding periodic meetings of its members to facilitate exchange amongst its members which are of interest to the forging industry, regularly providing its members with information on business opportunities, technological advancements in the industry, prices of critical inputs etc. and organizing training programs with a view to enhancing the skill of the employees of the forging industry.
About Industry
AIFI conducted a survey of the Indian Forging Industry in September 2017, which covered 378 forging units across the country. The current investment in the plant and machinery by Indian forging companies is worth of INR 27,833 Crore.According to the survey, the Indian Forging Industry has registered a growth of 7% in Production from 22.88 Lakh MT in FY 2015-16 to 23.96 Lakh MT in FY 2016-17. The overall capacity utilization of industry stood at 62% in FY 2016-17, which has improved marginally from 60% in FY 2015-16. The estimated turnover of industry in FY 2016-17 was INR 31, 189 crores. Domestic Sales constituted around 75% of total turnover amounting to Rs. 23, 392 crore. India exported forgings valued INR 7797 crore (25% of total turnover). The top three states, in terms of the number forging units and installed capacity, are Maharashtra, Punjab and Gujarat.
Current share of auto sector is about 58% of total forging production while the rest is with the non-auto sector.
The Indian Forging Industry mostly exports to the and North American countries. Major countries of imported forging components are USA, Germany, China and Italy. The imported forging components include hydraulic power steering systems, steering gear systems, brakes and servo-brakes parts, propeller shaft components, diesel engine parts for earth moving equipment.
The Indian Forging Industry employs about 1 Lac people.
About Members
AIFI Members constitute 12.87 Lakh MT of the total production in FY 2016-17. Approximately 50200 employees work within the member companies of the Association (as of March 2016). 60% of the member companies are small, 26% medium and 14% large enterprises.
